Protech® NBPT

The products of the PROTECH N NBPT range incorporate the urease inhibitor NBPT (Triamide N (n-butyl) thiophosphoric) in all its formulas, so that the ureic nitrogen is protected, avoiding losses due to the volatilization of nitrogen (in the form of ammonia) that are produced when urea comes into contact with the urease enzyme in the soil. In this way, greater efficiency is sought in the application of nitrogen to the crops, obtaining higher yields, from the economic and environmental point of view.

Protech nbpt
The crops do not absorb the nitrogen in ureic form, so for its use, it has to be transformed into ammonium (NH4+) and nitrate (NO3-). In a first step the ureic nitrogen is transformed into ammoniacal nitrogen, by the action of the enzyme urease in the soil (called Urea Hydrolysis). This transformation process begins immediately, since urea is unstable in the presence of water. However, this process is not direct, since at first urea is transformed into Ammonia + Carbon dioxide, which spontaneously decomposes into Ammonia + Carbon dioxide.
The rate of conversion into ammonia and the losses of ammonia depend on factors such as temperature, humidity, cation exchange capacity and crop residues present in the soil (although humidity and temperature are the most important).
Losses due to ammonia volatilization are significantly reduced if urea is immediately incorporated into the soil after application, this can be by the action of rain or by irrigation. However, in conditions of absence of rain, this is not possible, so to reduce these nitrogen losses (due to ammonia volatilization) urea-based fertilizers are treated with urease inhibitors.
An urease inhibitor is a compound added to urea-based fertilizers to improve nitrogen use efficiency and reduce emissions into the environment. It acts by inhibiting the hydrolysis of urea by action on the urease enzyme.
Depending on the dose of inhibitor used, the hydrolysis of the urea will be more or less delayed, and the application of the PROTECH N NBPT technology may result in a reduction of nitrogen losses by 30 to 50%. In this way, the PROTECH N NBPT technology can delay up to 14 days the volatilization of ammonia, converting the urea gradually into the form of ammonia available to the plants, without gaseous losses.
The PROTECH N NBPT inhibitor is developed based on the PENXCEL technology ™, which is a patented formulation by Innovar AG, to incorporate the urease inhibitor NBT to the urea-based fertilizers, which provides stability to the product and an excellent penetration of the product in the grain, guaranteeing the maximum effectiveness in the incorporation of the inhibitor to the fertilizer.
